The Mustard Seed Match for Tuition Assistance Endowment
For over 50 years, Bishop Walsh School has provided children an academically excellent, Christ-centered education rooted in Gospel values. Our traditions emphasize academic rigor, spiritual formation, faith in action, and environmental stewardship. Our safe and loving learning environment encourages students to grow spiritually, socially, and emotionally, as well as intellectually. Here, our students learn the skills they will need to function wisely in a technological age, along with principles of good citizenship including being attuned to the needs of the wider community. Our graduates go on to succeed in high school and college, enabling them to become successful workers, as well as faith-filled parents of future generations.
Today, Bishop Walsh is serving over 300 students and their families. Unfortunately, we find that many working Catholic families are unable to afford our full tuition, with a large percent relying on tuition assistance. Without additional scholarship aid, Bishop Walsh will not be able to serve all of the Catholic families who wish to send their children to our school but who find full tuition too great a financial hurdle.
To address this need, we have a unique opportunity that will help ensure that we continue to fulfill the hopes of our students and families, regardless of their means. Thanks to the success of the Embracing Our Mission Campaign for Catholic Schools, the Archdiocese of Baltimore is putting $5 million back into Catholic elementary schools to aid them in establishing endowment funds for tuition assistance. As a result, Bishop Walsh is raising funds to establish the Bishop Walsh Endowed Fund for Scholarships in the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Catholic Community Foundation. This Mustard Seed Match Program will provide one “free” dollar for every two “new” dollars we raise, up to $75,000. (Note: To be eligible for the match, gifts must be made prior to December 31, 2015.) Once the “Bishop Walsh Fund” is established, we can continue to grow it, thus helping to ensure that it has a funding stream for full or partial scholarships in perpetuity.
With your support, we believe we will be in a position to take full advantage of this extraordinary opportunity. While no gift is too small, there are a few prospective benefactors whose generosity can help to ensure that we are able to raise the $150,000 we will need to secure the maximum $75,000 match. Thus, we have come to you, as one of the leading donors to Bishop Walsh, to respectfully ask that you to join us in this important fund-raising effort. We deeply appreciate your past support for our Annual Fund, which remains crucial to the financial health of our school, and hope you will consider an additional gift of $5,000 in support of our Mustard Seed Match Program.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of our request.
