Executive Functioning
What are the executive functions?
The parts of our brains that allow us to plan, initiate and complete goals. Additionally, they assist us with evaluating how to problem solve and how to be productive and efficient.
EF Coaching can assist students with:
Plotting out deadlines
Organizing material in chunks
Implementing structures that can assist with initiating a task
Goal development
Increase intrinsic motivation
How and when to communicate effectively with teachers
Creating balance
Implementing mindfulness based practices to assist with stress reduction
Counseling
Students do not need to experience "major problems" to benefit from counseling. Counseling can assist students with normal day-to-day life.
Counseling can help elementary, middle and high school students:
Understand thoughts and feelings
Reduce conflicts in the classroom
Learn to manage stress and anxiety
Increase self-confidence and self-esteem
Improve peer interactions and relationships
Improve relationships with family
Have a safe, confidential space to process feelings and emotions
Reading Intervention
Reading Intervention is designed for capable students with characteristics of dyslexia and who struggle to read and spell. Reading tutors will provide intensive, one-on-one instruction in reading and spelling using the Orton-Gillingham approach - a systematic, multisensory, structured literacy reading remediation approach. All tutors have completed the 60-hour training in Bowman's Orton-Gillingham "Plus", a program accredited through the International Dyslexia Association. Tutors provide engaging lessons addressing phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, fluency, morphology, and written language.
