Music
At Bishop Walsh School, the music program, led by Mrs. Roberta Stallings, is designed to nurture creativity, self-expression, and a love for music in students from PreK through 12th grade. Our offerings focus on skill development, performance opportunities, and a comprehensive understanding of music theory and history. Here’s an overview of the music education journey at BW:
PreK - 5th Grade: Introduction to Music
General Music Classes: All students participate in weekly music classes that focus on the basics of rhythm, melody, and movement. Children explore music through singing, playing simple instruments, and interactive games.
Performance Opportunities: Students showcase their talents in annual performances, including Christmas programs and spring concerts.
Exploration of Instruments: Starting in 4th and 5th grade, students have the chance to explore a variety of instruments, laying the foundation for future band and choir participation.
Middle School (6th - 8th Grade): Music as a Growing Passion
Band Program: Students can join the middle school band, where they receive instruction on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Rehearsals focus on technique, ensemble playing, and preparation for performances.
Choir: Open to all students, the middle school choir offers vocal training and a chance to perform at school events and concerts.
Music Appreciation: A course in music appreciation introduces students to different musical genres, composers, and the history of music, encouraging a deeper understanding and love for the art form.
High School (9th - 12th Grade): Advanced Music Studies and Performance
Private Lessons: For students interested in individual growth, private lessons are available in voice and a variety of instruments.
Extracurricular Music Opportunities
Liturgical Music: Students of all grade levels can participate in liturgical music for Masses, allowing them to integrate their musical talents into the faith-based environment of BW.
After-School Programs: Additional opportunities for musical enrichment are offered through after-school clubs, such as a music production club for students interested in the technical aspects of sound and recording.
Bishop Walsh School’s music program aims to inspire students at every level, encouraging both personal growth and a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of music.
